In my professional life I often have to go to seminars and conferences where you can get caught by people whom you want to escape from. Firstly I am always very polite and listen for the first five minutes, I then explain that I am attending the conference so that I can meet as many new people as possible so I need to excuse myself but that they can always make an appointment with my office to continue the conversation at a later date.
