Yes, some do; it’s an authority thing. Some officers have no power in their home, so they use it on the job. Some officers were bullies as kids, so they bully people on the job. Some officers figure if I abuse my authority, I can move up in the ranks faster. So it’s multiple reasons, but overall some people take their jobs a little more seriously than needed. We’re humans; we’re all here to help and service others in some way or another. So being a cop is a service business; number 1, you have to be a people person. Unfortunately, the way the police system is set up, it’s about money and politics. Until politicians change laws and enforce heavy consequences for excessive police force, things won’t change. Police kill people, hurt people, etc., and most of them get a slap on the wrist. It’s never all police officers, but some are corrupted; it does not matter what state or country you live in, it’s the same thing.
I don’t think all policemen are the same, many take their jobs of protecting their communities and reducing crime very seriously. That said, their are many corrupt police officers and those who think their badge means they can take the law into their own hands and do whatever they like! Unfortunately there are bad people in nearly every profession.
YOU ARE ALSO CORRECT ABOUT THAT. THERE ARE SOME PRETTY NICE COPS OUT THERE STILL AND LUCKILY ONES THAT DO CARE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND USE THE LAW THE CORRECT WAY. I DON’T HATE COPS OR ANYTHING, I JUST HAD MY SHARE OF THE JERK FACES AND THIS IS JUST A QUESTION THAT CAME TO MIND AS I WAS STROLLING THE COMMUNITY. MY UNCLE JOE WAS A SERGEANT AND WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND I COULDN’T SLEEP MY UNCLE WOULD LET ME GO WITH HIM WHEN HE WORKED AT NIGHTS SOMETIMES. IT WAS ALWAYS INTERESTING, SCARY AND EXCITING EVERY TIME. I MISS HIM AND THAT A LOT. MY BAD… I GOT KINDA SAD THERE FOR A BIT. NOT LIKE SAD SAD BUT LIKE A HAPPY SAD, BECAUSE OF ALL THE GOOD MEMORIES. NOW DAYS COPS THINK THEY ARE BETTER THEN THE REST OF US.. LET US ALL BE LUCKY AND NEXT TIME WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH A COP LET THEM BE NICE, UNDERSTANDING AND NOT SUCH AN FACE. LOL…
It depends on the individual.
Some officers may become overly attached to the authority that comes with the badge, which can lead to ego, misuse of power, or acting above others. But many others take their role seriously and see it as a responsibility to serve and protect, not a privilege to dominate.
Like any profession, there are good and bad examples—the badge itself isn’t the problem, it’s how it’s carried.
So here’s the real question:
Do you think power changes people, or does it simply reveal who they already are?
I THINK THAT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHO WE REALLY ARE DEEP DOWN INSIDE. BUT TO HAVE POWER WE NEED TO LEARN DISCIPLINE; THAT WAY WE CAN CONTROL OUR SELVES AMONGST OTHERS AND ACT IN A WELL MANNERED WAY. IF WE DON’T HAVE DISCIPLINE WE MAY END UP TREATING PEOPLE BADLY. AND ONCE YOU LOOSE THAT RESPECT IT IS HARD TO GET BACK. YOU HAVE TO RESPECT OTHERS TO BE RESPECTED. I DO THINK THAT POWER REVEALS WHO WE REALLY ARE… GOOD OR BAD?? I HOPE THAT I AM ON THE GOOD SIDE…

There are always cops around no matter where cops are. If you see with your own eyes like I have, you’d understand what I am talking about. But there really are cops out there that are no good. They just hide it so well because they get good at it while time passes. Just goes to tell you that we really don’t know squat about out fellow officers….
